Hello from IOWA (yes, the American state with all the corn and pigs!) I am a self-described computer nut. I also love electronics, telephone systems, lawncare and modern TV shows like Alf and Growing Pains. And, of course, I am a big fan of Star Trek-- I am not sure about The Next Generation yet. Hopefully the next season will live up to the original!

If you visit my FTP (File Transfer Protocol) site you can download some cool software and even a couple programs I wrote. Mine are the ones in the GRIZZSOFT folder. There are also so photographs I scanned in the Polaroids folders. Here is a link to my FTP.

I also like to color. Recently I picked up a GIANT Care Bears coloring book-- it is as big as the screen on my console TV! I managed to find a few coloring books "on line" in PDF (Portable Document Format) and I will gladly share them with you! You will need a program called Acrobat to view them. Click the links below for any (or all) that you want!

I like jokes too. Read some jokes, why not? Joke Page 1 Page 2 Page 3

I have also been known to write some pretty good poetry too. Please have a look at some of my best.

What's Going on Grizz?

We are, for the most part, feeling better. I went back to work on Monday but really didn't start to improve much untl Tuesday. Alli didn't start feeling much better at all until Wednesday. I've got a little bit of a lingering cough that only affects me when I laugh. Unfortunately I like to laugh.

I had some extra time off this week. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday the store was closed Thursday through the weekend. So I have been working on our den (where I have my computer set up). I added some outlets behind the TV and behind the telephone table I also added two phone jacks by my chair-- one of the telephone and a second line so I can get online and not tie up our main line. I guess I have no excuse but to keep this page up to date!

I had to do some drywall work for the project too because the wall behind the end table has a foam insulation behind the drywall which kept me from being able to just pull the wires through. Instead, I had a open up a "chase" by carefully cutting out a strip of the drywall and then re-installing it after the fact. I did put insulation back in, of course. Alli should be putting the second coat of touch-up paint on in about 15 minutes.

We didn't go anywhere for Thanksgiving becaue we didn't want to spread around what we were sick with. We made our own little Thanksgiving meal yesterday with turkey, croissants, potatoes, cranberries, stuffing, gravy and pie. Alli used some purple potatoes and when mashed they looked like some sort of blueberry goo. They tasted fine, but I couldn't bring myself to eat many of them. Kadence opened the can of cranberries, so helpful.

Grizz Reviews Stuff

Big Leauge Chew

This pink, shredded bubble gum tastes as you would expect it, but the novelty of it is that is comes in a chewing tobacco pouch. Now baseball loving kids can imitate their big league heros without to health issues associated with tobacoo products. I gave Kadence some on Friday and she seemed to like it too. I did notice that it lost it's flavour in about 15 minutes, but that is better than you get with the dried up sticks of gum that come with baseball trading cards.

What else is there to say about Big League Chew? If I knew, this review would be longer. 4/5 bases. I know, there are only 4 bases but 4/4 is too good for this product and 3/4 is underselling it. Maybe the umpire keeps an extra base in the trunk of his car in case of emergencies!

287XL Maths Co-Processor

I finally did it-- I bought a co-processor despite not really knowing if I will see any benefits from it with the type of software that I use. But I will tell you why I did decide to try it-- why not?

The model I got is the Intel C80287XL, which is very different than the standard 287. The main difference is that its actually a 387! Supposedly, this means that it has 50% better performance, uses 83% les power, and has the extra instructions that a 387 would have. This is intriging. Are there programs that run on a 286 that would take advantage of the 387 instruction set? Who know? But if there are, I am ready for them!
